Information for Agencies, Practicum Instructors, and Task Supervisors
The UNC Charlotte School of Social Work Practicum Office recognizes the important role that community agencies, practicum instructors, and task supervisors play in shaping students’ academic experience. We appreciate the continued support these agencies provide to our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students during the practicum placement experience.
New practicum placement sites:
We welcome the opportunity to expand our practicum partnerships with agencies and organizations both in the Charlotte, NC area and throughout the country. If your agency is interested in becoming a practicum placement site for UNC Charlotte social work students, please fill out our New Agency Onboarding Interest Form. We will reach out when we begin onboarding new placement agencies for the upcoming academic year.
Practicum placements typically take place for the full academic year (August-April), with students completing an average of 16 hours per week.
During practicum placement, students complete a variety of tasks under the supervision of practicum instructors and task supervisors. These tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Advocating for clients and policy change
- Conducting intakes and psychosocial assessments
- Facilitating groups
- Providing mental health and substance use counseling
- Participating in case conferences and team meetings
- Working on grant proposals
- Community outreach
- Developing needs assessments
- Analyzing how policy impacts services
- Completing special projects
If you have any questions, please reach out to us at ssw-practicum@charlotte.edu.
