Phi Alpha: National Social Work Honor Society
Phi Alpha is a national academic social work honor society for undergraduate (BSW) and graduate (MSW) students. Nu Theta, the UNC Charlotte chapter, was founded in 2005. Its purpose is to recognize students who have attained scholarly excellence in social work. Members of Phi Alpha represent the top 35% of students in our social work program based on academic requirements.
Undergraduate (BSW) requirements:
- Achieved BSW Junior or Senior status
- Completed at least 9 semester hours of required social work courses
- Achieved an overall grade point average of 3.8 (on a 4.0 scale)
Graduate (MSW) requirements:
- Completed at least 9 semester hours toward the MSW degree
- Achieved an overall grade point average of 4.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
Students eligible for induction will be notified in the spring semester by university email. There is a cost for membership and the induction ceremony is held in the spring semester.
